Mr. Jones (2019)

November 2, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies (CSEEES) proudly presents an event dedicated to exploring the historical significance of the Holodomor, a man-made famine that starved millions of Ukrainians as a result of Soviet policies in the 1930s. The Center is hosting a screening of the acclaimed biographical thriller, Mr. Jones directed by Agnieszka Holland. This event is part of a series of fall activities aimed at fostering awareness and understanding of Holodomor’s historical legacy in Russia’s war against Ukraine today. The screening of Mr. Jones will serve as a captivating portrayal of the tragic history of the Holodomor, specifically focusing on the investigative journey that inspired George Orwell’s literary masterpiece Animal Farm.

A hybrid Q&A with Andrea Chalupa (writer and producer of Mr. Jones), Oleh Wolowyna (Director of the Center for Demographic and Socio-Economic Research of Ukrainians in the US) and Adi Džumhur (CSEEES Associate Director) will follow the screening.
