GSLL/RusProg: Alexei Navalny Discussion

February 16 @ 4:00 pm

Dear Students, Dear Friends of the UNC Russian and Russian Flagship programs:

Today, on the seven hundred and twenty third day of Russia’s full-scale assault on Ukraine’s sovereignty, the Russian Program of the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill invites you to learn about and discuss the consequences of what Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has called the “assassination” of Vladimir Putin’s most prominent critic: Alexei Anatolyevich Navalny (6/4/1976-2/16/2024). Alexei Navalny never wavered in his commitment to non-violence. His sudden passing today has dire consequences for a non-violent resolution of Vladimir Putin’s reign of terror and the fate of the post-Soviet sphere and the world.

If you would like to talk about Alexei Navalny’s death in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, attend the teach-in to be held today, February 16, 2024, at 4pm in Dey Hall 413.
