Professor of Germanic Languages and Joint Professor of Linguistics

Paul Roberge (Ph.D. 1980, University of Michigan) is professor of Germanic languages and joint professor of linguistics. He also holds the title of professor extraordinary of general linguistics at Stellenbosch University (South Africa). His areas of research interest include: historical linguistics; comparative Germanic grammar; older Germanic dialects (especially Gothic, Old High German, Old Saxon, and Old Norse); pidgins and creoles; the origin and evolution of human language; sociolinguistics; Afrikaans; South African Literature.
