James William “Bil” Hays, Jr., of Siler City, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 31, 2020, from heart disease. He was 59. Bil earned his baccalaureate degree in comparative literature from William and Mary College. He completed the MA degree and was a candidate for the Ph.D. in comparative literature at UNC-CH. During his graduate studies Bil taught German in what was then the Department of Germanic Languages, after which he worked at UNC-CH in information technology for over 27 years. Bil joined the Department of Computer Science in 1997 and served most recently as IT manager. His obituary can be found here.
