Private Support: Make a gift today!
Thank you for your interest in supporting GSLL, the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures. On July 1, 2011 the German and Slavic departments merged into a historically significant new department with a strong cohort of Central European Studies scholars – Germanic, Slavic, and Hungarian.
The new department is stronger than it has been at any point since German was first taught at Carolina 150 years ago; the humanities are clearly flourishing in the College of Arts and Sciences, and our area contributes much to that vigor. Our department boasts an elite group of nationally ranked senior faculty and our younger colleagues are rising quickly. This distinguished group is also deeply committed to undergraduate teaching, offering courses that appeal to students from all areas of the university.
Private support plays a key role in maintaining our national and international reputation for excellence in our faculty undergraduate and graduate student excellence. State budget cuts make it far more difficult to meet the demands needed to advance our department.
